The marina is man-made, created using artificial islands and has its own special ambience. The Benalmadina marina is one of the most amazing port and residential developments in the world. It has model installations and an attractive, unique architectural style. It has been awarded the prize as the "best marina in the world" on two occasions, and since 1987 it has had the European blue flag due to the quality of its services and water.

It has 1,100 mooring places and offers a wide variety of activities and events, thanks to its facilities and the privileged climate of the Costa del Sol. All these factors contribute to making the marina and its surroundings one of the best places to enjoy the sea. The Nightlife in the Marina is spectacular, plenty of top class restaurants and low cost eating places from Pasta to Seafood to Chinese and Thai to South American Tex Mex and Steak Bars. There are numerous Discos and bars to cater for all tastes and ages The Port has the best night life on the coast Its climate, with 320 days of sunshine a year and an annual average temperature of 22C, makes it possible to engage in all sorts of tourist, leisure and entertainment activities.

Benalmadena is situated on the Costa del Sol and lies between Malaga and Fuengirola. It is almost an extension of Torremolinos. It is made up of three totally different centres, Benalmadena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Costa.

Benalmadena Pueblo is a typical Andalusia village set in the mountains. Visit the spectacular monument erected in honour of Christopher Columbus. The Archaeological Museum in Pueblo houses a collection of mainly South American artifacts, pre-dating the Discovery of America. Take the lift up to the local church and the small walled gardens, where you can admire the view.

Arroyo de la Miel is a commercial village, famous for its popular attractions such as Tivoli World Fun Park, where you can try the thrilling rides or relax by the bars whilst watching one of its many excellent shows. The Teleferico or cable car will take you to the peak of Mount Calmorro, more than 600m high. Or for those who like to keep there feet firmly on the ground have a relaxing stroll in La Paloma Park.

Benalmadena Costa is the coastline of the area. Here you will find activities to suit all tastes and ages. Your day can be spent basking in the Mediterranean sun or strolling along the promenade to the Puerto Marina, which has twice won the prestigious 'Best Marina In The World' award, an absolutely beautiful site, by day and night. The Marina holds a wealth of shops, restaurants, bars, boutiques and a sea life centre. It is a must see for every visitor.
La Paloma park is only a few minutes walk, a lovely place to stroll in the evenings or take the children. Centered around a large lake, which is home to all sorts wildlife, including birds, swans, ducks and turtles. The other residents in the park include peacocks, all sorts of hens, rabbits and ostriches. Beside the park is Selwo Marina, where you can see the dolphins, penguins, sea lions and parrot shows.

Train and bus information
The railway station in Benalmadena is situated in Arroyo de la Miel on Avienda Estacion.

Trains leave on the Fuengirola - Malaga line in Benalmadena at 0.20 and 0.50 every hour. On the Malaga - Fuengirola line they leave Benalmadena at 0.03 and 0.33 every hour. The line runs between Malaga central and Fuengirola and intervening stops. Connections for other main line stations within Spain can be made in Malaga Renfe station.

The main bus routes run along the seafront road N340. An excellent circular route covers the Marina to Benalmadena pueblo and return, running hourly.

There are many Holidays, Saints days, Ferrias, fiestas etc all year round in Spain. But during the National, Provincial and local holidays it is wise to bear in mind that many of the business and services will be shut. If in doubt, try to go to the bank a day early, change up some spare cash at the exchange and get a few extra shopping essentials.

On religious festivals it is well worth keeping an eye on the local church in Arroyo, where you will normally be able to catch one of the processions of icons, statues etc as they are paraded around the town. Most of these take place in early evening.

Easter and Whitsun are variable. Those of you here at Easter should definitely join the throng on the streets to watch the statues of the Virgin Mary and Jesus, as they wind heir way through the side streets.

Veladilla del Carmen (16th July) is a local festival. The Patron Saint of fishermen is paraded and then lifted into a boat and is rowed out to sea. A spectacular candlelit event centered at the Marina.

English speaking Catholic community in Benalmadena HOLY MASS in English. Saturday 13.00 in Arroyo (next to the train station). This fulfils Sunday obligation.

Church of England Benalmadena HOLY COMMUNION. 1st and 3rd Sunday of month at 09.45. Chapel of Residencia Hogar Marymar, Paseo Maritimo.

ARROYO DE LA MIEL
A village situated approximately 5 minutes from the complex, popular with both tourists and locals alike. The many restaurants and bars providing a wide choice at prices to suit all. Tivoli World Fun Park is a popular venue for children and for the more adventurous the cable car will take you to the peak of Mt. Calmorro 600 metres high from where extensive views of the coast can be enjoyed. Also close by the complex is La Paloma park providing interest for both young and old.

A typical Andalucian village set in the mountains, situated 15 minutes bus ride from the Arroyo de la Miel and is certainly well worth a visit.
